Halftone is a responsive DLE 21 template for a news site, an online outlet or a city portal. Large newspaper typography, halftone dots instead of empty placeholders, a signature blue in the light theme and lime in the dark one.

Highlights

  • Every section has its own look: World shows capital clocks, Economy shows the key rate, currencies, oil and the Moscow Exchange index, Sports shows the league table, the rest show section topics. Each section opens with a hero, an icon, stats, subsections, a format filter and “Follow the section”.
  • Five story formats: a long read with a table of contents, video with chapters and a YouTube, RuTube, VK or mp4 player, a full-screen photo gallery, a podcast with a waveform and mini-player, live coverage with timestamps, an opinion with a big quote. A format is switched on by filling one field.
  • A home page like a major outlet: Breaking, the top story, Latest / Popular feed, story threads, In brief, section blocks, a video band, podcasts, “Explained in 60 seconds”, poll of the day, photo of the day and opinions.
  • Article page: reading progress, text size, In brief, reactions, an author card with Follow, the story thread, Trending, Read also and a large “Next story” band.
  • A mega menu with each section’s top story, a mobile drawer and bottom bar, full-screen search.
  • Readers follow sections and authors and read “My feed”; a newsletter for chosen sections with address confirmation.

Every DLE page: home, sections and subsections, full story, search and quick search, tags, all news, favourites, profile, private messages, registration and rules, pop-up login, password recovery, add news, statistics, feedback, static pages, threaded comments, polls, print version, site offline, DLE messages.

Bundled plugin

The template comes with the “Halftone: extras” plugin — section menu, story threads, weather, rates, markets and sports, reading time, reactions, Follow, My feed and newsletters. No settings page: city, currencies and league are set right in template tags. Without the plugin the template still works, its blocks are simply hidden. Open source.

Together with DLE Parser PRO

In the Extended edition the site fills itself: DLE Parser PRO takes news from RSS and source sites, puts the main photo into the template field and credits the source under the story.

Fonts and Font Awesome icons are bundled, no external requests.
