DLE Clean URLs+

DLE Clean URLs+ is a DataLife Engine module that adds three new types of search-engine-friendly links (Type 4, Type 5 and Type 6). Your news and pages can now open at modern, short and readable URLs — without the .html ending.

New formats:

• Type 4 http://yoursite.com/category/id/, for example /movies/284/ or /serials/284/

• Type 5 http://yoursite.com/category/id/news-name/, for example /movies/284/gladiator/

• Type 6 http://yoursite.com/id/news-name/, for example /284/gladiator/

Note: Types 4 and 5 work only when the news item is assigned to a category.

How to use it:

1. Open the admin panel → System settings → General.

2. Make sure Enable SEF URLs is switched on (it is on by default).

3. Under SEF URL type, choose Type 4, Type 5 or Type 6.

Once you save the setting, all links on the site open in the selected format automatically.

Redirects:

The module comes with built-in redirects. If you previously used another link type (for example Type 2, http://yoursite.com/category/subcategory/id-name.html), visitors who follow an old address are sent to the new one — http://yoursite.com/category/id/, http://yoursite.com/category/id/news-name/ or http://yoursite.com/id/news-name/. Your indexing is preserved, there are no 404 errors and search traffic stays stable.

Technical details:

• DLE Clean URLs+ works through additional .htaccess rules built on simple regular expressions. They add no load to the server — compared with the standard Type 3 (with dates), the new formats are even lighter.

• Canonical links are fully supported and are generated automatically for the selected Type 4, 5 or 6.

• sitemap.xml is updated automatically so the site map reflects the new URL structure straight away.

• Built-in redirects preserve indexing and make the move from the old link types (1–3) to the new ones seamless.
