AI Film Recommender is a smart film search for DataLife Engine movie sites. Visitors type like they would to a friend — “like Interstellar, but shorter”, “a light comedy for a family evening” — the AI picks films and series, the module finds them in your catalog and shows neat cards with a “why this film” line. Supports DLE 21.0.

Highlights

  • Only what your site has. The AI suggests films, the module matches them against your catalog; if few match, the AI chooses directly among your news. Every card leads to your page.
  • “Why this film” under every card. A short AI explanation, recognized genres and years, refinement hints like “shorter” or “newer” and a “Show more” button.
  • A new design that fits any template. Fonts and colors come from your site; accent color, theme, radius and columns are set in the admin panel. Phones, tablets, dark mode.
  • Collections for SEO. Pages like “Films like Interstellar” with their own URL, H1, description and ItemList markup — the AI builds the list once.
  • “Not in catalog” — what to add. Films the AI recommended that you do not have, with request counts and CSV export.

How it works

The module builds a catalog index — titles (including original ones), years, genres, posters and ratings of your news — and keeps it up to date by itself. Matching is instant even with 100,000 news.

  • Accurate mode — the AI suggests films, the module finds them on your site; if not enough, the AI chooses among candidates from your catalog.
  • Economy mode — one AI request, the rest is filled from the catalog without AI.
  • Catalog only — for niche sites (anime, K-dramas, Turkish series): the AI chooses only among your news.

An identical search does not call the AI again — the answer comes from the cache instantly and for free.

Search page

  • Free-text query box, example queries as buttons, the visitor's recent searches.
  • Cards with poster, year, genres, rating and a “why this film” line; a “Similar from the catalog” block.
  • Recognized genre and year tags, refinement hints, “Show more” without repeats.

AI providers

  • OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek — current models, “Refresh list” and “Test” buttons.
  • Reasoning models work without parameter errors; reasoning depth is a setting.
  • Web search for fresh releases, a proxy for AI requests.
  • Site profile (films, series, anime, cartoons, K-dramas, Turkish series, Indian cinema, documentaries) and a free-form catalog description.

Collections and SEO

  • Collections are pages with their own URL, H1, title and description; the AI builds the list and writes the description, extra films are removed in one click.
  • Collection ideas come from popular visitor searches.
  • ItemList markup, canonical, /ai-films/name/ URLs; search result pages are closed from indexing.

Statistics and control

  • Searches by day, AI requests, cache hits, searches without results, costs and tokens.
  • Popular searches turn into a collection in one click.
  • “Not in catalog”: what the AI recommended but your site lacks — with counts and CSV export.
  • Limits per user group, per IP for guests, a daily limit for the whole site, a pause between searches and form bot protection.

Appearance

  • Accent color, theme (like the site, auto, light, dark), corner radius, number of columns, poster shape.
  • Your own heading, subheading, placeholder and example queries.
  • Your own card and page templates in the skin folder — module updates will not overwrite them.
